The Preciousness of Pauses in Life

As embarrassing as it is to admit it, there have been plenty of times when I was so caught up in the hustle and bustle of DOING life, I completely missed that my wife was hitting on me.  And even worse, I occasionally even got irritated Lisa was “interrupting” my dinner making, bill paying, blog writing, or whatever with affection.  Relatedly, over the weekend we went on a glorious getaway to the Port Ludlow Resort with no agenda other than enjoying each other in a playful and rejuvenating manner.  The hardest part was shifting gears from the usual go-go-go, to-do list mode, to the simple bliss of being.

For instance, as we stood waiting for 15 minutes in line for the host to seat us at the restaurant, I noticed my task-oriented ego self was getting angry at the delay.  Taking a deep breath, my True Self reminded me we were standing in front of a breathtaking view of the bay, trees, mountains, blue sky, and sun, and I was holding hands with the girl of my dreams, so chill the heck out and enjoy the beauty of being!

Both purposefully creating and embracing pauses amidst life’s action is a precious gift.  An essential aspect of yoga’s enlightenment and Christianity’s salvation is freedom.  Freedom from believing we’re defined by our doings, achievements, possessions, and “likes”, to realizing we’re gifted with the Love, value, and belonging we crave simply by existing … that’s how GOOD the Divine/Reality is!  Pauses are precious not only for helping us taste this freedom, but because they slow our speedy lives down enough to see the beautiful sights, people crying out, and moments of connection we otherwise miss.  So, today I invite us to practice embracing and creating pauses.

If you enjoyed this you can sign up for email notifications of future blogs on the top right.  Additionally, I have a Facebook page where I regularly post articles, blogs, quotes, meditations, etc. to encourage us to more Light and Love.  Again, to the top right there’s a link for you to “Like” the page, as well as my Instagram account if you’re interested. ❤

Grace and peace,

Lang
