How “This” is Heaven and “That” is Suffering

I wonder if you can relate to this: In my mid teens I couldn’t wait to be able to drive.  In high school I longed for college.  At university I was anxious to graduate, move out of my parents’ house, and get a “real” job.  As a single man I couldn’t wait to get married.  My ideal life was always elsewhere, often somewhere in the future.

I just started reading Michael Gungor’s book, This, and almost immediately something clicked for me.  “This” is where heaven, salvation, and enlightenment resides, and “That” is where we suffer, struggle, and despair, in that when choose to live in what is (This) we can flourish here and now, whereas when we decide to root our awareness in the land of the future, past, or possibilities (That), we not only miss out on the abundance of life that’s only found in “This”, we cultivate crops of unhappiness, anxiety, and lack.  Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s good to plan for the future and reflect on the past, I’m talking about where we set up “shop”, so to speak.

“This” is where Love lives, beauty blooms, friendship flourishes, Spirit speaks, wholeness is found, healing flows, connection comes, and bliss abounds.  “This” is real, and “that” is not.  So, today I invite us to practice living, loving, shining, and being in “This” in all of its gloriously messy thisness with our awareness, breath, and senses.

If you enjoyed this you can sign up for email notifications of future blogs on the top right.  Additionally, I have a Facebook page where I regularly post articles, blogs, quotes, meditations, etc. to encourage us to more Light and Love.  Again, to the top right there’s a link for you to “Like” the page, as well as my Instagram account if you’re interested. ❤

MUCH Love and Many Hugs,

Lang
