Freedom has been a central word for me lately. Finding freedom from my inner critic. Being liberated from the impulse to judge and point fingers. Discovering deliverance from the drive to compete and compare. Breaking the chains of getting my happiness and worth from others. On the last one, Eckhart Tolle says: “The happiness derived from some secondary source is never very deep. It is only a pale reflection of the joy of being, the vibrant peace you find within as you enter the state of non-resistance.”
Non-resistance, or surrender, has zero to do with injustice, abuse, oppression, and other wrongs to be opposed, and everything to do with how we go with the flow of reality instead of against it. It’s tapping into the freedom, ease, delight, and Love inside of us. In yoga we talk about Moksha, which is liberation from Maya, the illusion that keeps us divided, small, afraid, and anxious. The false realities we, to varying degrees, buy into without knowing it, are precisely what lead to injustice, abuse, and oppression. While the illusion teaches us life is about winning and being above others, the Truth is life is about Loving and togetherness.
What would you like freedom from to experience more aliveness? I believe the goodness is already in you, and I find purposefully breathing in the good and exhaling the junk to be a great way to experience greater lightness of living, as it has a way of returning us to Love and togetherness. Who’s up for joining me on the journey toward freedom today? What practices help you on this path?
